The One You Need

As new parents, there is ONE thing we want our little girls to know. One Man. The only One Who can satisfy her every need. The only one who can provide a happily ever after. Jesus. Seeing the world through the eyes of a father changes our focus. The broken things become clear and even our own fallible natures are seen in a new light. Sobering truths like this should lead us into a deeper Faith in the only one who is not broken, but was broken for us, the children of God. This is the reality we long for our daughters and sons to live in. That Jesus, is the the one you need. Whom do I have in heaven but You? There is NOTHING on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail (and mine sure have), but you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever. *Psalm 73: 25-26

This is such a beautiful song! It just keeps playing in my heart since hearing on the radio a few days ago. Sadly, I never had a great relationship with my earthly dad; yet this song confirms that no earthly person could ever fill the God-Shaped hole in my heart. Thank you and may God give you wisdom as you walk through the amazing journey called parenting!

Yes. Yes. Yes. I am inadequate to equip my children for this world, but He can through me. My prayer is that His light will shine through me so they know He is always there and He is the One they can depend on for everything.

As always – super excited about the new album and this song is a great one to start with. Thanks for the sneak peak!

Every once and a while, albums are created that are more than just words to sing along with but are words that speak to you, make you think and then act on those words. This album is that in its truest form. All songs are praise songs but matured, not simple church worship songs but songs that when reflected on, are humbling and challenging.
As a new father myself last September, “The One You Need” speaks worlds of wisdom into my new journey. As much as I want to be “the one” for her, I have to expect that I will let her down but Jesus will not and to trust in Him, one of the hardest things I have had to swallow and accept since her birth.
In November of 2009, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and still fighting to this day, “Miracle” is a perfect example of my feelings and thoughts during this troubling time in life. Words like “I dont need to see the cancer go away, I just need to know that it will be okay” are truthful yet amazingly inspired at this same time. Every time I hear it, my soul experiences a moment of peace and think about my mom and how she just needs to hear these words.
Finally, “Grace is Sufficient” is one of the hardest songs I have ever had to try to digest but one of the greatest songs to be written, recorded and performed. I dont want to spoil the song, just will say that every time I have asked God “Why?” during troubled times in my life and I dont understand his reasonings, this is God’s reply. This song challenges me in almost every part of my daily life, past and present causing me to repent every time I hear it.
S&S, thank you for writing this album, I doubt you will ever receive the recognition in this world that is needed for this album but just know that one person’s life has been personally touched and radically challenged because of it.

Place – Knoxville TN, Event – Worship In The City
I made my plans to go early to this event mainly to be in time for Jars of Clay. I made it a few hours early as another band that I had never heard of was setting up – Shane and Shane. I was very impressed with their music but I was moved by ” The One You Need”. I set my sights to go home and make sure I would get this song to give to my two daughters. One of which knows of God but right now has no Faith in God. I pray for her always and I hope one day she will “know” the one she needs.

First off let me say… What an amazing God given album this is. I can’t stop listening to it. Love the pre-order stuff. I have a quick q. I purchased the 10 digital album but now I’m thinking I wanna go with the 25 package. Anyway I can put 15 towards that?

Well, I’m not a dad – I’m a daughter. And when I got the email today to watch the music video, I wasn’t expecting this subject matter. I sat down on my porch swing to watch it. I was so caught off guard – I started sobbing. I had such conflicting emotions. You see, my dad is an alcoholic who has been in a destructive relationship for the past 13 years. The longer he has been in his relationship with his current wife, the farther and farther he has slipped into his alcoholism and away from me. The past few years have been so painful to see my father become bitter, angry, and in constant despair. I haven’t talked to him excect for 15 minutes in the last three months. And oh, my heart just aches.

On the other hand, I have a person in my life who is like a father figure to me who has his own daughters. Through that relationship I can see a godly father, and see the strong love, encouragement, protection, and relationship he has with his girls. Every time I see him hug his daughters I have to fight feelings of sadness and jealousy, but at the same time I am so encouraged to know some day my children can have that with my husband. And while he isn’t my father, he still fills some of those holes.

So, there I am, on the porch swing, 26 years old, watching this video, and sobbing. Sobbing because I want my dad to tell me he’s proud to be my father and I want him to love Jesus, sobbing because I could see my father figure interacting with his daughters when I watched the father/daughter in the video and it hurt my heart, and sobbing because it was as if Jesus himself was telling me that he was all I really need.

While my dad perhaps hasn’t said that message to me, I do know he loves me, but more so I know Jesus loves me, and it’s such a good reminder that he is what I need. My needs may never be met by my earthly father, but they can be met by my heavenly father.

So, from a daughter, thanks for the message.

    ~Kathryn

once again excellent work on both this song and the album. Question for you guys: I ordered on of the packages in which i received a digital and physical copy of your album. Does that mean I have two copies of this cd or is it technically still one. Simply put, do i have the rights to give one copy away or should i purchase extras (which i gladly will). Thank you Shanes for the work you put into making your albums centered on scripture and Jesus Christ. I very much appreciate it.

I was IM chatting with my married daughter who lives in the UK (and I’m in the US) multi-tasking as usual. I got the album email while we were “talking” and clicked through to the site and played the video and thought, “awww cute, kinda cheezy” and the next minute tears were running down my face. She being far from me now, I am forced to trust in Jesus’ care for her and her husband. I can’t protect her or provide fatherly care easily from here. Man, that seemed too coincidental. Dang it you guys! I don’t even know you and you’re facilitating reminders from God for me and my family. :) One body…

Heard this song on my XM station. I know this is for new parents but this would be an awesome song for a daughter to dance with her Dad to at her wedding. I absolutely love the song and the meaning behind it. May God continue to inspire you with more songs about His great love!

When my son was a teenager he put me thru absolute hell. Between drugs and jail I wasn’t sure he would make it to see his twenties. When he was 19 he started dating a girl from high school who already had a 18 month old daughter. The girl from high school, now his wife, gave him the choice to either be with them or continue to use drugs. Fast forward 10 year, they now have a son and a daughter of their own and a daughter they adopted. Four kids altogether. Everytime I hear this song I picture my son with his youngest daughter. I’m quite certain you wrote that song about them.
